Deus Ex Human Revolution is a cyberpunk-themed 1-person action role-playing video game. Human revolution has criticized its release, with many judges praising the open nature of the game and the weight of social interaction over the outcome of events. The various “pillars of play” in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, as mentioned by the developers, are “Combat”, “Stealth”, “Hacking” and “Social”. Players can switch between these types of game whenever they want, and certain pillars can flow into others. For example, a failed hack can set off an alarm and start a fight, and social skills can result in the player getting easier access to certain areas than would otherwise be possible (thus avoiding the need for stealth or combat).
In the series, supplements are technological modifications to the human body that give the user superhuman capabilities. While supplements were based on nanotechnology in the first two games, Human Revolution instead contained mechanical supplements, as they chronologically precede the first games. As players progress through the game, they can activate supplements that cater to each of the four types of games. These magnifications are unlocked by earning enough experience points to get a Praxis kit, which functions as a skill point. Praxis sets can also be found at L.I.M.B. (Liberty In Mind and Body) clinics or are found throughout the game.
