Sniper Elite 1 (Sniper Elite Berlin 1945) is a tactical shooting video game. The main character of Sniper Elite is Karl Fairburne, a US secret agent of the OSS, disguised as a German sniper. He was deployed at the Battle of Berlin in 1945, during the last days of World War II, with the critical aim of obtaining German nuclear technology before the Soviet Union.
Sniper Elite is a third-person shooter involving elements of stealth and first-person shooter. To strengthen the stealth aspect, a camouflage index was measured in percentages that show the visibility of player character Fairburne. Fairburne uses various World War II weapons, including sniper rifles, a silent pistol, lower pans, light machine guns, an anti-tank weapon, and hand grenades that can also be used to set up tripwire booby traps.
One of the key features of the game is the option of realistic ballistics, which involves factors such as bullet drop, wind strength and breathing when making an effort. Sniping game is performed in first person scope view, while movement and use of all other weapons is in third person view. If the player successfully takes a very well-placed sniper (such as a head shot or a shot at a moving target), the view follows the path of the bullet in slow motion as the camera rotates around the bullet. Features include the ability to wound an enemy so that their comrades uncover their position by coming to their rescue, firing grenades and fuel tanks with a well-aimed gunfire, and time shots so that loud noises such as thunder or artillery mask the sound.
